Bill Rich - banjo, vocals

Bill began playing music at age 11, studying classical guitar with Paul Shan. After four years he decided to play pop music. Groups like the Ventures, Beatles, Beach Boys, and all the great Motown artists captivated his interests. Bill put together a band and played until the 11th grade. For some reason he lost interest at that point.

Musically, things changed radically at age 26 when he received a Christmas gift from his sister; a banjo. With extreme difficulty and absolutely no help, he was able to play a few tunes after 3 months of intense struggle. Then he met his soon to be best friend, premiere banjo player and teacher, Chet Singer. His influence enabled Bill to begin an all gospel bluegrass band that played the greater Pittsburgh area for 10 years.

After moving to Florida in the early 1990’s, Bill found the South Florida area not very conducive to the bluegrass venue. This prompted him to begin a bluegrass Jam session at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. His daughter, Amy, later to be joined by his son, Nathan, hosted the jam session that sill meets the third Sunday of every month.

Although Bill has played banjo in numerous bands, his biggest thrill and musical motivation is playing with two extremely talented musicians; his kids Amy and Nathan.
